HARRISBURG, Pa. — The newly formed Pennsylvania Center for Beef Excellence unanimously elected a slate of officers to guide the efforts of the Pennsylvania Beef Task Force, Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff said.
The center’s new directors are: Jeff Nogan of Lackawanna County, president; Dennis Byrne of Chester County, vice president; Dr. Erskine Cash of Centre County, secretary; and Darwin Nissley of Lancaster County, treasurer.
Funding
The center has received significant private funding and the directors will seek additional state and federal grants to build a stronger foundation. In early May, the center received $2,500 from Air Products Corporation to put toward start-up costs. This funding will be added to current donations of nearly $15,000.
“As a beef producer, it is exciting to see the sincere interest from our state government and from the agricultural industry that will help us grow and improve our businesses,” said Nogan.
A national search for an executive director of the Center for Beef Excellence will be launched at the end of June. The executive director will manage the center’s daily business and serve as the liaison to the task force and the Department of Agriculture.
