CLARK, Ohio — Henry and Iva Miller will be hosting the Family Farm Field Day in Holmes County from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 19.
The focus is sustainable lifestyles and farming practices. The morning will start with Willis and Wayne Miller demonstrating their sheep dogs herding livestock.
The keynote speaker will be local farmer and author David Kline. He will be looking at agriculture, the producer and the consumer.
A dairy panel of dairy graziers will discuss opportunities in dairy grazing with low acreage plus two breakout sessions with topics on optimum milk from dairy grazing to grass management.
Malcolm Beck of Garden-Ville from Austin, Texas, will be talking about composting and soil quality.
Sessions
Sessions will be held on how to do community supported agriculture by David Yoder; pasturing laying hens and on farm marketing; and making homestead cheese with Brian Schlatter. Phil Nabor from Mustard Market will discuss buying local foods with a local panel of consumers.
Children’s activities include field microscopes to view soil and bugs. Nature hikes will be offered with local naturalists and wood management walks and sessions will be held by Tiverton Timber/Hochstetler Wood.
Vendors will have demonstrations through the day. Vendors interested in sustainable lifestyles are welcome to participate.
The food stands will be by the parochial schools’ special education parents.
No fee
There is no entrance fee for the sessions.
The field day site is located on Township Road 110, off County Road 19, west of Becks Mills and east of state Route 83, north of Clark, Ohio.
