MERCER, Pa. — Mercer Raceway Park will present the All-American “Spring Nationals” world championship pulling event May 24 at 6:30 p.m.
The rain date for the pull is May 25 at 5 p.m.
Classes
The pull will be sanctioned through USA-EAST and is to be produced by Full Pull Productions of Jamestown, Pa. Four USA-EAST sanctioned classes are scheduled for the Mercer Raceway event: (1) All-American “Smoker Series” tractors; (2) big rigs semitrucks; (3) street licensed semitrucks; and (4) street licensed diesel 4×4 trucks.
Each of the classes will be running for points in their respective 2008 point races.
Smoker Series
The “Smoker Series” will bring the top pro stock and super stock tractors in the eastern U.S. to Mercer Raceway.
It will be John Deere and International and Ford New-Holland and Massey-Ferguson taking the spotlight.
The 2007 champion is Ray Link from Patton, Pa., with a John Deere tractor named “Gone Mokin.’”
This event is also expected to showcase a number of the new component pro stock and super stock tractors.
Trucks
Also returning to Mercer will be the big rigs semitrucks with awesome big block turbo-charged power.
Richard Bonner from Mantua, Ohio, was the big rigs series champion in 2008 with his “Killer,” a 1978 Mack SuperLiner powered by a 998 cubic-inch Mack V-8 engine.
Don Snyder from New Springfield, Ohio, will lead the charge with his “Mr. Nasty” Peterbilt.
Returning to the event this year will be the street licensed semitrucks. The 2007 Champion was Cory Fox from Butler County, Pa., with his Peterbilt named, “Ain’t No Dog.”
All of the trucks must be registered for the highway and must be driven by a commercial driver’s license operator.
Winding up the action will be an open class for the street licensed diesel 4×4 trucks at 8,000 pounds. Matt Cooper from Portersville, Pa., won at Mercer last year with a Duramax Chevrolet that has been named “Goin’ the Distance.”
This truck has moved up to the Pro Stock Diesel class for 2008, opening the door to a new breed of diesel trucks this year.
Conditions
All diesel 4×4 trucks must be registered, insured and inspected in order to enter this class of competition. The class is open to the world with both cash and trophy prizes to be awarded.
Pullers do not have to become a member of the sanctioning body and do not have to buy one day memberships in order to register and compete. However, only members of USA-EAST will collect points in their respective classes.

The pit gate will open at 2 p.m. May 24 and all registration will end promptly at 5:30 p.m. Mercer Raceway Park is located on U.S. Route 19 on the northern outskirts of Mercer. This is easily reached from Exit 15 of Interstate 80.
