COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland has signed Senate Bill 209.
State Sen. John Carey sponsored Senate Bill 209, which increases fines for OVI violations and allocates the estimated $3.7 million revenue increase to the State Public Defender to reimburse county governments for expenses in operating local public defender systems.
About the bill
S.B. 209 also requires the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to issue permits that allow persons with disabilities to hunt in public wildlife areas with electric-powered all-purpose vehicles or motor vehicles and modifies criminal law to permit hunting from such vehicles.
Additionally, the bill establishes registration reciprocity for snowmobiles, off-highway motorcycles and all-purpose vehicles of non-Ohio residents if the operator lives in a state where the vehicle is properly registered under a registration law similar to Ohio’s.
