COLUMBUS — In the 2008 Spring Expo Holstein Sale held March 27-29 in Columbus, lot No. 1, Aldens Ramos Emerald VG 87 EX MS had contracts and interest from four different AI companies and numerous embryo inquiries from four different countries. Emerald sold for $57,000 to Bellemac JR, Raymond and Jeremiah Anthony from Meadville, Pa.
Emerald was consigned by Alden Farms, Danville, Ohio. This price sets a record for any solely Ohio Holstein-sponsored sale, breaking the record price of $35,000 for Straight Pine Elevation Holly-ET in the 1981 Echoes of Elevation Sale.
There was a tie for second high at the price of $11,500. Lot No. 2 was first-choice female Zenith or Bolton out of Ri-Val-Re Shtle Desirae-ET from Andrew, Bradley & Rebecca Conrad, Grafton, Ohio.
Lot No. 3 was the consignment of Whiteleather Holsteins, Minerva, Ohio, a 3-month-old Shottle calf from the highest CTPI +1725 Hi Metro daughter in the world. Both of these investments were purchased by Oakfield Corners Dairy-Gordon Lamb Oakfield, N.Y.
The sale averaged $5,285 on 40 lots.
Buckeye Dairy Club
The Buckeye Classic Holstein Elite sale averaged $3,090 on 45 lots. The high-selling animal was Nor-Bert Jose Montana-ET, consigned from Nor-Bert Farms, LTD of Bremen, Ind. The winning bid was $9,000 and purchased by Oakfield Corners Dairy, Oakfield, N.Y.
The second-high selling animal was Pine-Tree Gold Tippy 1649, a consignment of Matthew Steiner from Rittman, Ohio. Winning the bid at $8,750 was Brian Ramsey of Louisville, Ohio.
The Buckeye Dairy Club Jersey sale averaged $ 2,581 on 13 lots.
The high-selling animal was Shipley Rocket Nora and consigned from Stacey Atherton of Newark, Ohio. The winning bid was $4,000 by David and Beth Ertl of Edison, Ohio.
The second-high selling animal was a consignment of Greta Koebel of Three Oaks, Wis. Tri-Koebel B Money-ET sold for $3,700 and was purchased by Gene Starky of Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
Ayrshire
Forty-five Ayrshires were on the sale block; the sale averaged $1,677.
The high-selling animal was Palmyra Granite Andrea. This senior 3-year-old was a consignment of Jordan Creek of Hagerstown, Md., and was purchased for $4,000 by Marlin Palick and Alex McCaig of Quebec, Canada.
The second-high selling animal was Marbrae Wilton’s Panda, consigned by Brian MacFarlane of Quebec, Canada. Winning the bid at $3,600 was the Yoder family of Pennsylvania.
Brown Swiss
Many bidders were present for the annual Midwest Review — 58 head averaged $5,440.
GS Premium Lisa was the top-selling lot at $22,000. This lot was an All American junior 3-year-old in 2006, and consigned by Samantha Garst of New Windsor, Md. The buyer was Bradner Farms, Abottsford, British Columbia.
The second-high selling animal at $20,000 was Sun-Made Puzzle Bracelet, consigned by Wayne Sliker and Garrison Brothers of St. Paris, Ohio. Lost Elm Farm of Berlin, Wis., was the winning bidder.
