ANDOVER, Ohio — Ashtabula County Commissioners proclaimed Feb. 16-22 National FFA Week.


The officers from the Pymatuning Valley FFA chapter, present during the reading of the proclamation, included president; Tyler Pike; vice president Tyler Polchin; Secretary Natalie Bessman; and Chaplin Kala Summers.


Ashtabula County Commisioner President Dan Claypool read the proclamation as Commisioners Joe Morowski and Debbie Newcomb stood by the officers for a photo shoot.


FFA week involved the entire school in activities: Tuesday was hat day; Wednesday was cowboy/cowgirl day; Thursday was blue and gold day and drive a tractor to school; Friday was twin day and the appreciation breakfast for the staff and the local community. Prizes were awarded each day. Friday, all FFA members assembled in the gym for leadership sessions.


District 3 job interview was Feb. 20 at Hillsdale High School. Tyler Polchin participated in the senior job interview, receiving fourth overall. He will also head to Columbus for state interviews.

ASHLAND, Ohio — The Mapleton FFA Chapter participated in the District 2 evaluation at Lorain County Joint Vocational School Feb. 8.


At the district evaluation, State FFA Degrees, American FFA Degrees and officer books were evaluated. Officer books that were graded were the chapter scrapbook by Emily Ford with a gold rating; treasurer’s book by Kristy Kline with a gold rating; and secretary’s book by Paige Rohr wit a honorable mention.


Several students also attended the District 2 job interview contest Feb. 20 at Hillsdale High School.


Sarah Kline participated in the Division 1 and received third place. In the Division 2 contest, Falicia Thomas received seventh.


Taylor Donley received seventh in the Division 3 contest. Emily Ford participated in the Division 4 competition and received fifth place. Then Jerry Mencl placed second in the Division 5 competition.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Two members of the Zane Trace FFA chapter recently participated in the District 7 public speaking career development event at the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center Feb. 19.


In the creed recital competition, freshman Hannah McDowell placed fifth and received a gold rating.


In the extemporaneous speaking competition, Junior Josh Kemper placed ninth and received a bronze rating.

ASHLAND, Ohio — From Feb. 18-22, FFA members across the nation celebrated National FFA Week.


The Crestview FFA chapter took part in National FFA Week with various activities each day. Feb. 19, Crestview FFA members wore their FFA shirts to school with cowboy boots and cowboy hats.


Feb. 20, members arrived to school early to prepare breakfast for the Crestview staff and teachers. Feb. 21, members prepared a lunch and slideshow presentations of the past year’s accomplishments and activities to show the Crestview community. Alumni, teachers and parents attended the community lunch.


The lunch also had special guests attend, including Richland and Ashland county commissioners, several township trustees and school administrators. Past Crestview FFA member Mary Beth Fulk shared her experiences of her internship on a ranch in Montana. Another former Crestview FFA member, Danielle Hulit, shared her experiences of a study abroad trip to the Netherlands.
