Storms of stupidity

There has been a lot of talk lately about how any number of things are making Americans look bad.
Reality TV, bare midriffs in church, our lack of respect for other cultures, and the presidential election just to name a few.
Sadly, this is only the tip of the iceberg (or hurricane, as the case may be).
Americans are making America look bad. Primarily because far too many of us are stupid.
Photo-oops! How else to explain that even as forecasters were standing outdoors, extolling anyone in the path of a hurricane to hunker down inside (do as they say, not as they do), camera shots were taken of people strolling directly into the path of crashing waves and rolling surf.
One family, ever on the lookout for a good photo-op, posed their preschooler in the water – snatching her to safety moments before a crushing wave bore down on her.
That photo will be just what children’s services needs to piece together the chain of events later.
Surfs up! People who won’t exert themselves to get up and change a channel will race outdoors in nearly any climate to stand behind a weather reporter and mouth “Hi mom!” while waving idiotically in the background.
This is not to say that we haven’t evolved as a people.
Nowadays, just as many people can be seen in the background waving and using their cell phones.
We can only presume this is to call their mothers direct to taunt them with the fact that they raised a simpleton? “Hi mom! Lookit me I’m out in this horrific storm and I’m NOT WEARING A SWEATER!”
Uncommon sense. Americans just have no common sense. No evacuation is complete without at least a handful of homeowners (and I’m not pointing fingers here but there are almost exclusively men) staring into the camera and stating – as if in challenge to Mother Nature – “I ain’t going. I’m stayin’ right here and ridin’
