Hello from Hazard.
Let’s get back on track. Here’s a shot of Item No. 715, which we unveiled two weeks ago as a cooper’s tool, used to hollow the inside of a barrel stave.
Since then, but really before readers saw the answer in the paper, we also heard correctly from the following readers: Pearle Banbury, North Lawrence, Ohio; Wendell Cole of Lisbon, Ohio; and James A. Coleman of Wellsville.
Mr. Coleman recalls packing those old wooden barrels with Sterling China hotel ware prior to being drafted in WWII. He even remembers the maker of those barrels: Joe Berman in East Liverpool, Ohio.

On to 716, which we’ll show here again this week. What is it?
