Hello from Hazard!
At last, our wonderfully wise readers responded to Item No. 699! There were a couple of close-but-no-cigar guesses, but four readers hit the target.
Are you ready? It’s a church pew hat holder.
Remember the days when men wore hats that weren’t baseball caps? These mounted underneath the pews and would swing out for men to place their hats into and then swing back out of the way. Nifty!
Reader Joan Shelton of Marion, Ohio, has several of these holders and quickly identified the item. Joining her with correct answers were Heidi Pfeil of West Jefferson, Ohio; Greg Dugas of Wellington, Ohio; and Delbert Grimm of Rogers, Ohio.
OK, we’ll really need your help on Item No. 700, since it’s an “unknown,” meaning its owner doesn’t have a clue how it was used. Looks pretty nasty, whatever it is!
