Hope you’re staying warm wherever you are – our thermometer dropped down to 5 degrees sometime during the wee hours of Monday morning.
David Wert of Mount Gilead, Ohio, confirms our Item No. 666 was a tile spade; in fact, he calls it an Iowa tile spade.
No. 667 received three quick responses, all claiming the item is a food chopper used mainly for vegetables, but sometimes also for meat. Bill Swanson of Butler, Pa., adds that both the handle and body are steel. Tammy Kline of Perrysville, Ohio, says her family has always maintained that a similar tool she has is specifically a cabbage slaw cutter. Timothy Acken, also of Butler, Pa., also identified the item. Many thanks.
Winter seems to be the time to curl up with a good mystery, so that’s what we’re serving up again this week. James Campbell of Moundsville, W.Va., submitted this week’s item, item No. 668, but doesn’t know what it was used for. He’s displayed it at the county fair and in the Marshall County Historical Museum, and still no one has been able to identify it for him. I know our readers will come to the rescue.
