Hello from Hazard!
OK, we’ve dallied long enough, what with the lack of answers from the mailbag and the early deadline delay because of the July Fourth holiday. No. 652, submitted by Wayne Cooper Jr. of Fombell, Pa., is a bracket or clamp to hold a spare tire on old cars’ front fenders.
Art Bilek of Norton, Ohio, tells us the small end mounts to the fender apron and the upper arm fastens to the cowl. The wide part holds down the tire when the wing nut is tightened. The only other “reader” to correctly identify the item was Farm and Dairy’s very own chairman of the board, Wayne Darling, who is an old car enthusiast.
Reaching back to Item No. 651, we received an e-mail from someone at the Cafone household (sorry, you didn’t include a name or hometown), who also correctly identified that tool as a nail puller (or tack puller).
Now, on to Item No. 653, also shared by Wayne Cooper. If you think you know what it is, drop us a line at: Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail at: editorial@farmanddairy.com.
Until next week.
