Hello from Hazard!
Our fine readers solved the Item No. 616 mystery. It’s a wool box, although missing some pieces and shown with a broken reel.
As the photograph showed, the sides fold flat and the wool fleece is laid in the box on top of straps and the sides tucked in. The wool could then be rolled and tied into a bundle for easier storing or shipping.
Thanks to R.L. Burton of Salem, Ohio; A. Dale Fasnacht of Massillon, Ohio; and a reader from Blue Rock, Ohio, who wants to known simply as “Hill Top Farmer.”
This week’s item comes from longtime reader Dave Cover of Cortland, Ohio. If you think you know what it is, send your answer to: Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail to: editorial@farmanddairy.com.
