Hello from Hazard!
The turkey must have kept you at the table for awhile, for we received no responses on Item No. 608. We’ll show it again this week, in hopes of more mail.
One lone reader, Dale Hartenstein of Alliance, Ohio, responded on Item No. 607.
He says he worked in a machine shop for 43 years and used this tool at times (sounds like an expert to me). Hartenstein weighs in on the side of the tool being a threading wrench. The center piece is a die. The handles are hinged to receive the center piece and the wing nut holds the die in place. With the wing nut loosened, you can make several passes over the piece to be threaded so you won’t tear the threads.
Well, Dale, see if you can work your magic on Item No. 608 this week! Anyone can send a guess to: Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail at: editorial@farmanddairy.com.
Our apologies to anyone who tried to respond via e-mail in the last week. Our internal e-mail server has been down… fizzled… kaput, which has created more headaches than you can imagine. If you sent an e-mail, it probably was returned to you. We’re up and running, so feel free to e-mail us once again.
If you’ve got an item you think can stump our fair panel of thousands of readers, send a clear, close-up 35mm photograph of the item, along with a detailed description (size, markings, use, etc.), to the address listed above.
