SALEM, Ohio – Ohio’s 10th District Court of Appeals agrees with Ohio Agriculture Director Fred Dailey: Taylor Creager’s 2002 Ohio State Fair grand champion hog is disqualified.
The court of appeals ruling ends a rigorous two-year court battle between the Creager family, of Wauseon, Ohio, and the state department of agriculture and its livestock exhibition rules.
Giving it up. The hog was exhibited as a barrow, or castrated boar, but an investigation by the Ohio Department of Agriculture found that some testicular tissue remained in the animal, a violation of state livestock exhibition law and rules.
The rules say animals in competitions can benefit unfairly from testosterone produced from such tissue.
