Buyers offer big support in Wayne Co.

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Wayne County Junior Fair Livestock Auction is always a highlight of the Wayne County Junior Fair with a strong turnout from local businesses and individuals ready to show their support for 4-H and FFA members across the county.
The first day of the two-day sale got under way with the sale of Will Ladrach’s champion pen of meat rabbits to Best Buy and Beerys.com for $600, while Austin Beery sold his reserve champion pen of meat rabbits for $500 to PackShip USA and Remember When Agricultural Museum.
Poultry. Gerber’s Poultry bid $625 for Alex Hartzler’s champion pen of broilers, while Troutman Vineyard and Winery bid $600 for Benjamin Kerner’s reserve champion pen of broilers.
National City Bank bid $475 for Alicia Woodland’s champion pen of meat ducks while Timothy Piper’s reserve champion pen of meat ducks was purchased for $385 by Servicemaster Cleaning Service.
Suttle Construction and Pools bid $450 for Will Ladrach’s champion meat goose, while Best Buy and Bonita Bowman, Beerys.com and Maibach Ford bid $350 for Kelsey Reichert’s reserve champion meat goose.
Servicemaster Cleaning Service bid $825 for Timothy Piper’s champion turkey, while Noah Menuez sold his reserve champion turkey for $650 to Stull’s Hair Clinic, Carl Finley Builders and Stout Excavating.
Goats and lambs. Jim Corbett of General Building Maintenance had the top bids of $7.50 per pound for Tyler Zimmerly’s 93-pound champion meat goat and $15 per pound for Elizabeth Rhoads’ 99-pound reserve champion meat goat.
Thirty-six goats sold for a total of $10,467.50 and averaged $3.37 per pound with the champions and $2.84 without.
Alyssa Gwin sold her 148-pound champion market lamb to Red Ferris Chevrolet for $15 per pound, while Miles Murray’s 147- pound reserve champion market lamb was purchased by Beerys.com and Best Buy for $6.50 per pound.
Lynette Schwonger’s 136-pound champion Wayne County bred and raised market lamb was purchased by Imhoff Construction Services for $2.75 per pound and Isaac Kauffman’s 129-pound reserve champion Wayne County bred and raised market lamb sold for $3 per pound to Wes Martin Interiors.
Eighty-six sheep sold for a total of $32,613.50 and averaged $3.01 per pound with the champions and $2.79 without.
Hogs. The second day of the auction got under way with the fast and furious bidding for Cody Dudte’s 258-pound champion market hog which was purchased by Real Estate Showcase for $23 per pound, while Jessi Miller, sold her 278-pound reserve champion market hog for $13 per pound to Pallotta Ford.
The 346 market hogs sold for a total of $174.261.10 and averaged $1.97 per pound with the champions and $1.87 without.
Steers. Andrew Castella’s 1,335-pound champion market steer was purchased by Dan Wiles Reality, Real Estate Showcase and Randall Oil for $7 per pound. Hailee Becerra sold her 1,280-pound reserve champion steer to Santmyer Oil Co. for $3.10 per pound.
Justin Esselburn sold his champion carcass steer to the Monitor Bank for $2.85 per pound, while RNS Service Auto Repair bid $2.60 per pound for Melissa Burkholder’s reserve champion carcass steer.
Tucker Packing bid $2.40 per pound for Lindsay Shoup’s 1,460-pound champion dairy steer, while Waynedale Truss and Panel bid $1.85 per pound for Elizabeth Shoup’s 1,580-pound reserve champion dairy steer.
The 115 steers sold for a total of $232,288.25 and averaged $1.50 per pound with the champions and $1.42 without.
The livestock sale generated a total of $455,090.35.
