Bidders reward Holmes County youth for hard work

MILLERSBURG, Ohio – Holmes County 4-H and FFA members were rewarded for their efforts during the year as the Junior Fair livestock sale was held.
First day. During the sale’s first day, Staley Technology bid $9.75 per pound for Gretchen Strait’s 140-pound champion market lamb, while Earney Dental Associates bid $6.85 per pound for Keaton Lorentz’s 135-pound reserve champion market lamb.
Lambs averaged $2.73 per pound with champions and $2.43 per pound without.
Goats. First National Bank bid $8 per pound for Natalie Troyer’s 76-pound champion meat-type market goat.
Wolf Creek Veterinary Services bid $3.85 per pound for Heidi Brown’s 89-pound reserve champion meat-type market goat.
The Pizza Parlor in Shreve bid $3.25 per pound for Crisha Brenly’s 63-pound champion dairy-type market goat, while Real Estate Showcase bid $4.25 per pound for Lindsey Eddy’s 69-pound reserve champion dairy-type market goat.
Goats averaged $2.80 per pound with champions and $2.42 per pound without.
Hogs. Auctioneer Steve Andrews and Bill and Bev Wachtel of Spring Walk Farm garnered the winning bid of $6 per pound for Olivia Finney’s 269-pound champion market hog.
Randy Clinage’s 274-pound reserve champion market hog was purchased for $5.10 by Paint Valley Equipment and Holmes Concrete.
Hogs sold averaged $2.17 per pound with champions and $2.13 per pound without.
Second day. The second day of the auction included the sale of turkeys, broilers, meat rabbits, dairy products, dairy feeders, dairy steers and beef steers.
Christina Keim’s champion turkey sold for $700 to First National Bank, while Vern’s Concessions bid $475 for Paydon Gingerich’s reserve champion turkey.
Alexis Kandel’s champion pen of broilers was purchased by Holmes Pest Control for $650 and Cory Gingerich sold his reserve champion pen of broilers to Bob Gibbs for $400.
Rabbits. Mrs. Yoder’s Kitchen, represented by Michelle, Gloria, Reno, Eli and Trent Yoder, paid $550 for Cody Starr’s champion pen of rabbits. Heidi Brown’s reserve champion pen of rabbits was purchased by The Pizza Parlor in Shreve for $400.
Renee Hershberger’s 710-pound champion dairy feeder was purchased for $3 per pound by Mast Pharmacy, while Lorraine Strouse sold her 697-pound reserve champion dairy feeder for $2 per pound to Steimel Law Office and Holmes County Title.
Dairy feeders averaged $1.40 per pound with champions and $1.27 per pound without.
Dairy steer. Melissa Hershberger’s 1,248-pound champion dairy steer was purchased by W-W Transport for $1.70 per pound.
Mullett Tire and Millersburg Tire had the winning bid of $1.40 per pound for Taylor Neuenschwander’s 1,398-pound reserve champion dairy steer.
Dairy steers averaged $1.34 per pound with champions and $1.10 per pound without.
T-L Transport, CC&W Livestock Supply and Denco Marketing bid $6 per pound for Randy Clinage’s 1,322-pound champion steer, while Melway Paving and Holmes Concrete bid $3 per pound for Taylor Straits’ 1,338-pound reserve champion steer.
Beef steers averaged $1.71 per pound with champions and $1.58 per pound without.
Bred and raised steer. The Home-owned Home-grown Holmes County Business Buyer’s Group bid $1.70 per pound for Cynthia Bunch’s 1,285-pound champion Holmes County bred-and-raised steer.
Multi Products bid $1.60 for Ryan Sowers 1,285-pound reserve champion Holmes County bred-and-raised steer.
