AVON, Ohio – The Christmas spirit will blossom into view Dec. 1 in Avon with the beginning of the 21st annual Candlelight Weekend in the French Creek District.
The three-day event will be from 7-10 p.m., Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Dec. 2, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 3.
The historic district is located along Detroit Rd. (Route 254), and Stoney Ridge (Route 611), east of Route 83. It is a mile south of Interstate 90.
Once a popular stagecoach stop between Cleveland and Lorain, the French Creek District now includes turn-of-the-century buildings, many of which have been restored. and transformed into antique, handicraft, and gift shops.
Santa is expected to stop by on Saturday and Sunday.
At dusk, the lamplighter will light the luminaries to brighten the paths and walkways.
Caroling will be done by the Avon High Choir, Avon Brass Band, Girl Scout Troops, New Community Baptist Church, and Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s Catholic Youth Outreach group.
Avon Band Boosters will provide a pancake breakfast on from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Avon High School’s new cafeteria on Detroit Rd.
A community Christmas tree lighting on will be a 6 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Square at corner of Route 254 and Route 611.
