COLUMBUS — The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and Ohio State University Extension received a grant from the Animals for Life Foundation to present two hands-on workshops on farm animal behavior and handling in order to be better prepared when responding to incidents involving livestock.
Cattle and sheep
The first workshop, which includes cattle and sheep, will take place May 14 at the Eastern Agricultural Research Station in Caldwell, Ohio.
The second workshop, which includes the proper handling of horses, will take place May 22 at the University of Findlay.
Registration for both workshops closes May 8.
Animal behavior, flight zone awareness, sorting and herding, corral building and more will be covered in these workshops.
Firefighters will gain five hours of continuing education through Ohio Fire Academy for attendance of these workshops.

Animal Agriculture 203 costs $25 per person per workshop and includes lunch.
Attendees are required to wear closed-toed shoes, preferably boots.
