It hardly seems possible that Christmas is here and gone again. It seems like just a few months ago that I was getting ready to plant my garden. Summer is over and little by little, Old Man Winter is doing his best to creep in upon us once again.
This is my 30th year of writing the column, Think About It, every week in the Farm and Dairy. Unfortunately, it is my first year to write Christmas greetings to you and your family without my dear wife, Myrna, at my side.
On Sept. 2, 2012, Myrna went home to be with our Lord. During the last 30 years of writing, Think About It, Myrna typed all my articles. She did a great job.
At this time, my daughter, Karen McLaughlin from Salem, Ohio, is taking over Myrna’s responsibilities. Karen has been doing all my typing since September. She is doing a great job in the absence of her dear mother.
Christmas is always a special time of the year. It is a time when people share their love and concern for others. It is a time when people talk about love and peace. I have always felt that deep down in the heart of most people they have a strong desire to live in peace on earth and good will to all men.
“It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child Himself” [Charles Dickens].
It is a personal joy for me to say to you and your family, “Merry Christmas.” I have enjoyed so very much your letters, phone calls, and acts of kindness to me this past year.
Thank you so very much and may God bless you and your family in the New Year 2013.
Light of the World so clear and bright,
Enter our homes this Christmas night;
Relight our souls so tenderly,
That we may grow to be like thee.
