Have we forgotten Acts 20:35, which says, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive”? As far back as I can remember, one of the memories I have of the Christmas season is the ringing of the bell of the Salvation Army.
I have always appreciated the many dedicated people who are willing to take their time and endure the weather day after day and ring the bell for the Salvation Army. The gifts placed in the buckets are used for the needs of thousands of people.
I have so much respect for this Christian organization that has taken on the this challenge all these years. The least we can do is acknowledge them by giving, and thanking them when we see them in the many places they serve.
I realize how easy it is to just walk by and ignore them and go on our way to spend our money on other things.

I remember years ago during my early ministry, I was a member of the Lions Club in Marietta, Ohio. During the Christmas season, we all took turns to assist in ringing the Salvation Army bell. We enjoyed being a part of helping others. We also gave out food and provided other things to assist those in need.
As a pastor of several congregations, we joined together to give out food baskets. It was always a thrill to help people in need. My late wife, Myrna, and I did our best to teach our family the importance of giving and lending a helping hand to others.
It is well for us to think that no grace or blessing is truly ours until God has blessed someone else with it through us.
