WOOSTER, Ohio – An introduction to certified organic vegetable and fruit production will be offered Dec. 10 Fisher Auditorium on the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center’s (OARDC) Wooster campus, 1680 Madison Ave.
Sponsored by Ohio State University’s Organic Food and Farming Education and Research program, the workshop is open to anyone who wants to grow organic vegetables and fruits.
Farmers with any amount of experience, including beginners, and with any size farm are welcome.
Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Call now. Registration, which includes reference materials and an organic lunch, is $10 for the first person from a family and $5 for each additional family member.

What’s on tap. The program features sessions on marketing opportunities, the USDA’s National Organic Standards, the organic certification process, soil ecology, composting, fertility management, variety selection, season-extension options, practical experiences, and weed and disease management.
David and Elsie Kline will share their experiences as a certified organic farm family. The Klines live and farm near Fredericksburg and publish Farming magazine.
Optional tour. An optional tour, weather permitting, will visit season-extension high tunnels and OARDC’s Composting Research Center.
