Recently, I have been paying closer attention during my conversations with others. I notice many people I talk to seldom mention their blessings. Most of their conversation revolves around problems and aches and pains. More recently, it has been pretty much about politics. Now that the election is over, maybe that will lessen to some degree.
I must confess sometimes I’m not in the mood to talk about problems, politics, aches and pains. I enjoy talking to folks who like to talk about the goodness of God.
May I suggest that you take the opportunity some time during the course of a conversation with someone and change the subject to the goodness and love of God? To warm up and get started, make a list of your many blessings. Let me get you started and you can add to my starting list at the end of my article. Perhaps you could do this in your Sunday school and let everyone participate.
Start out like this: “I thank God for my: 1) Family, 2) Home, 3) Job, 4) Church, 5) Health, 6) Food, 7) Neighbors, 8) Country, 9) Pastor, 10) Sunday school teacher, 11) Community, 12) School system, 13) Doctor, 14) Friends, 15) Local fire department, 16) Local police department.
I have started your list out with 16 things I’m thankful for. Can you add another 16 to the list? Why not just see how many you can come up with and send your list to me. Let’s see who can make the longest list.
If you send me your list and it is the longest and most interesting, I will share it with our readers in a few weeks in my column.
Send it to me at: The Farm & Dairy, c/o Dr. George A. Hazlett, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460.
“O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good” (Psalm 107:1).
THINK ABOUT IT!
