HARRISBURG, Pa. – Mark Riley of Williamsfield, Ohio, topped 85 other contestants to win the senior division of the 10th annual showmanship contest.
The contest was held Sept. 16 at the All-American Dairy Show in Harrisburg. The three age divisions drew 252 contestants from 11 different states.
Riley. Mark, 16, is the son of Wendy and Ron Riley, who operate Ri-Valley Farm. Mark is a three-year member of the 4-H dairy program in Crawford County, Pa., and shows Ayrshires.
Mark says fitting and showing cattle is his passion, and he hopes to make a career of it one day. Mark was one of the youngest finalists in the senior division, which includes ages 16-21.
Showmanship. The top 10 winners of the showmanship contest then competed in a clipping and fitting contest. David Hill of Gettysburg, Pa., judged the showmanship portion of the competition and then collaborated with fitting judge Teri Martin of Gouveneur, N.Y., to place the other nine contestants.
They were: second – Justine Kelsey, Canastota, N.Y.; third – Robbie Emerson, Middletown, Del.; fourth – Matt Sears, Homer, N.Y.; fifth – Chanse Huggins, Plant City, Fla.; sixth – Kylee Staring, Lowville, N.Y.; seventh – Kelly Lee, Johnson Creek, Wis.; eighth – Brent Schuler, Fleetwood, Pa.; ninth – Hannah Young, Clifton Springs, N.Y.; and 10th – Katie Moser, Middletown, Md.
