FRIENDS
Sometimes we allow ourselves to think that we have no friends. I guess it is just the human part of us to think that way. Especially we think that way when things are not going as well as they should. It is my belief that those thoughts often have their beginning when we struggle with defeat and discouragement.
It was just last week that I started back for the summer season representing Farm and Dairy at the Hartville Flea Market. I was once again reminded of all the many friends I have that I have not seen or talked to during the winter season.
Many of our readers of this column stopped by my Farm and Dairy table just to say hello and chat for a few moments. It was great to see and talk to them. They always remind me just how much they looked forward every week to receiving in the mail the Farm and Dairy News.
You can always distinguish a good friend by the way they approach you and the things that they say. They ask you questions such as, how was your winter?, how is your health? How is your family?” The things they say and the questions they ask are all indications of good friends.
I like the words of George Elliot when he said, “Animals are such agreeable friends. They ask no questions, they pass no criticism.” That is a good thought. If we are going to ask questions, remember to include in them questions of concern which increase our friendship with one another.
My wife and I recently purchased a little Shitzi-Poo puppy. We have developed quite a friendship. She has become a part of our family and she knows it. She has become dependent on us to care for her.
William Shakespeare said, “Nature teaches beasts to know their friends. Friendship is not something that just happens it must be developed through kindness, concern and other acts of interest.”
“God evidently does not intend us all to be rich, or powerful or great, but He does intend us all to be friends” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Our greatest friend is Jesus Christ our Savior. “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends” John 15:13.
