HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania. — Penn State’s livestock judging team won the collegiate division at the 60th Keystone International Livestock Exposition’s Collegiate and Junior Livestock Judging Contest Oct. 8 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.
Team members are Jordan Sommer, New Park, Pennsylvania; Kasie Kerr, Bangor, Pennsylvania; Angela Becker, East Millsboro, Pennsylvania; Amy Middleton, Mill Hall, Pennsylvania; Alyssa Wentz, Lehighton, Pennsylvania; and Sharon Snyder, Greenfield Township, Pennsylvania. They were coached by Ben Williamson, instructor of animal science in the Department of Animal Science.
They won the rotating trophy, topping six other collegiate teams. The other top five teams included The Ohio State University, second; West Virginia University, third; University of Tennessee, fourth; and University of Kentucky, fifth.
The team also placed first overall in reasons; first overall in swine; second overall in beef; and third overall in sheep.
Individual placing
Penn State’s individual placings were: Angela Becker, second overall and third in reasons; Alyssa Wentz, eighth overall; Amy Middleton, ninth overall; and Jordan Summer, 10th overall.
The Keystone International Livestock Exposition is the largest livestock show on the East Coast with more than 1,100 beef cattle, 200 goats, 625 horses, 1,200 sheep and 500 swine exhibited by producers from 30 states.
