COLUMBUS – Ohio auctioneers David Jones of Flushing and Joel Wilson of Batavia entered the Ohio Auctioneers Hall of Fame Jan. 18.
The installation ceremony was held during the Ohio Auctioneers’ Association convention in Columbus.
Jones. David Jones is a long-time member of the state and national auctioneers’ associations, and has served on the state board for more than 20 years. He was the state president in 1994.
Within the association, he is well known for his work inbuilding ties with numerous state legislators. Jones actively worked to achieve transfer of the auctioneering licenses to the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
He has conducted more than 1,000 auctions during his career, with sales ranging from real estate to farm auctions. Jones is also serving as a bankruptcy auctioneer.
A 1964 graduate of Reppert Auction School, he furthered his auction education and received his CAI designation in 1985. A licensed Realtor since 1968, Jones is associated with Homeland Realty and Auction Company in Cadiz.
Jones has conducted auctions in Ohio as well as Iowa, Missouri, Indiana and West Virginia.
Community service. A past president of the local Jaycees and local Ruritan clubs, Jones is also an honorary member of three local FFA chapters.
A past chairman of the Ohio Mine Examining Board, he is currently president of the Belmont County Extension advisory board. He is also an elder at the East Richland Friends Church in St. Clairsville.
He and his wife Grace have five children, including son Dan, who is also an auctioneer.
Wilson. Joel Wilson, owner of Joel T. Wilson Co. Ltd. Auctioneers, has been a full-time auctioneer since his graduation from Reppert Auction School in 1955.
Prior to that, he helped his father, Claude Wilson, with his auction business throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He was issued an auctioneer license at age 14 by a Clinton County judge.
He obtained his real estate license in 1957 and his Ohio real estate broker’s license in 1960. He is also licensed in Kentucky.
He earned his AARE designation in 1999.
He served as president and state director of the OAR in 1964-1965, and went on to serve two 3-year terms as director-at-large for the Ohio Auctioneer’s Association.
As a member of that group, he also served as chairman of the education committee and as president in 2000.
Specialization. For the past several years, Wilson has specialized in the sale of real estate at public auction. He currently has five other auctioneer agents associated with his firm.
His company conducts an average of 60 auctions per year with a vast majority being for estate settlements.
To promote the profession, he has sponsored more than 20 apprentice auctioneers and continues to mentor many younger auctioneers throughout the state.
Wilson is also a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, Cincinnati Better Business Bureau, Rotary and other community and civic organizations.
