SALEM, Ohio — George M. Keagy, 96, of Salem, died March 12 at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown of natural causes.

Keagy was born Jan. 23, 1916 in Saxton, Pa., a son of Mahlan and Mary Haup Keagy and had lived in this area most of his life.

George was a salesman for Witmer’s Inc. in Columbiana for 35 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion. He loved hunting and fishing and was a life member of the Beaver Creek Sportsman’s Club.

George is survived by his wife, the former Betty Ketterer, whom he married Sept. 24, 1940; daughter, Carol Sevenich of Poland; two sons, Lynn Keagy of Columbiana and William Keagy, Sr. of Negley; two sisters, Ida Chaplow of Fort Myers, Fla. and Nora Eaton of East Palestine; two brothers, John Dilling of New Waterford and Henry Dilling of Fort Myers; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Forney and a brother, Jess Dilling.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 16 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Leetonia, with Reverend Robert Edwards officiating. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Salem, where the Salem Honor Guard accorded military honors.

Tributes in George’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
