DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — The top-selling Holstein in the Delaware Valley University Green and Gold Sale didn’t have to go far from the sale ring to her new home. The university paid $4,550 for Oakfield AR Splendid-Red ET, a senior 2-year-old consigned by Dylan Riedel, of Corry, Pennsylvania.
The sale, presented by the university’s Dairy Society and the Pa. Holstein Association, was held April 2 at the university, which is located in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The 63 live cattle lots averaged $2,063 and the eight embryo lots averaged $1,425.
Other top bids
The next two high selling lots both went to out-of-state buyers. Quentin Scott and Jacob Schaefer, of Little Falls, Minnesota, paid $3,500 for King-Lane ABS Always-Red-ET. David King, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, consigned the winter calf. McKenna Vest, Clayton, Delaware, consigned Grand Slam Ver Cece, a Jersey fall calf that also sold for $3,500 and will find a new home at Cedar Lane Farm, in Oldwick, New Jersey.
A fall calf, Castlebrook OK Cayd-Red-ET, consigned by Castlebrook, in Montrose, Pennsylvania, sold for $3,450 to Hanna Welk, Quarryville, Pennsylvania.
Ethan Arsenault and Matthew Driscoll, Doylestown, paid $3,300 to buy Trans-Acres GChip Alison-ET, a summer yearling consigned by Melvin and Judy Peachey, Belleville, Pennsylvania.
The state Holstein association consigned Holly-Brooks Sanchez Rolls, which sold for $3,200 to Justin and Leslie Varnicle, of Gratz, Pennsylvania.
Also topping a $3,000 bid was Rob-Sara Okalif Bambi-ET, a winter calf, consigned by Robert and Laura Emerson, of Middletown, Delaware. She sold for $3,100 to David Maulfair, Jonestown, Pennsylvania.
Adam Fraley was the sale auctioneer. Student sale co-chairs were Ethan Arenault, Mackenzie Krisher and Hayden Remsberg.
