MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. – The first annual Ohio Valley Junior Beef Association Classic Beef Show was held at the Interstate Fair and Exposition in Mineral Wells, W.Va., July 19.
Overall supreme champion female was an Angus shown by Lacey Gorby of Alma, W.Va. The overall supreme reserve champion was a Limousin shown by Katie Hammond of Lubeck, W.Va.
Breed show. The grand champion female Angus was shown by Lacey Gorby of Alma, W.Va. Gorby also exhibited the reserve champion.
Jared Hill of Cottageville, W.Va., showed the grand and reserve champion crossbred females, as well as the champion and reserve champion Shorthorn females.
Hereford grand champion was exhibited by Ashley Elliott of Waverly, W.Va. The reserve champion was shown by Cody Grogg of Coxs Mills, W.Va.
Limousin grand champion was exhibited by Katie Hammond of Lubeck, W.Va., and reserve champion was shown by TJ Life of Mineral Wells, W.Va.
Feeders. Grand champion feeder heifer was shown by Marrenna Cox of Parkersburg, W.Va. The reserve champion was shown by Grace Parsons of Ripley, W.Va.
Grand Champion feeder steer was shown by Brandon Boso of Belleville, W.Va.
In the market steer show, TJ Life of Mineral Wells, W.Va., took top honors. Adam Coravacous of Ravenswood, W.Va., took reserve placing.
Showmanship. Showmanship winners by age division were Gorby, 16-21; Coravacous, 9-15; and Brandon Cox, Parkersburg, W.Va., 0-8. Master showman was Keith Ullman of Graysville, Ohio.
The show was judged by Brad Smith of Grant County.
About the group. The Ohio Valley Junior Beef Association was formed under the leadership of The Wood County Beef Improvement Association.
Any junior under 21 years of age can join the association. Members show their cattle at one-day shows set up for them at fairs and festivals throughout the Ohio Valley.
The next two scheduled shows are the Ohio Valley Junior Fall Roundup Beef Show at the Pleasants County Ag Youth Fair at St. Marys, W.Va., Sept. 21 at 1 p.m., and the Ohio Valley Junior Beef Fall Harvest Show at Tyler County Fairgrounds in Middlebourne, W.Va., Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
