CADIZ, Ohio – The Natural Resources Conservation Service, through a special project funded by the USDA 2002 Farm Bill, will have funds available to assist forest landowners with management practices.
Deadline. These funds are available on a competitive basis and the deadline for application for the program is June 15. A minimum of 10 acres of forest land is required to be eligible to participate.
This program will focus on the forestry resources in a 16-county area in southeastern Ohio, which includes Harrison and Jefferson counties.
Eligibility. Funds may be available for tree planting, a minimum of 5 acres, and timber stand improvements such as thinning, grapevine control and crop tree release.
Forest owners with livestock must have the animals permanently excluded from the woodland in order to be eligible for the program. Also, landowners with forest stewardship plans or forest management plans will be given priority.
How to apply. To apply for the program contact a local Farm Service Agency to fill out an application for the EQIP Forestry Project. The FSA office is located at 104 Firehouse Lane, Hopedale, Ohio; they serve both Harrison and Jefferson counties.
The applications will be taken by FSA in order to determine producer eligibility for the program. The local ODNR Service Forester along with the Natural Resources Conservation Service will evaluate and rank the applications.
All local applications will compete with the applicants from the other 15 counties for the available funds.
