At a farm in Japan, robots will be used to complete almost all tasks related to growing lettuce, except for planting the seeds.

According to Fortune, Japanese company SPREAD intends to open a robot-run farm by the middle of next year. The farm will be able to produce 30,000 heads of lettuce a day. Once seedlings are grown, cranes will move the seedlings into grow beds, and robots will maintain temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide levels.

Currently, the 47,300 square foot farm produces 21,000 heads of lettuce a day that are distributed to about 2,000 Japanese supermarkets.
