MEDINA, Ohio — Members of the Black River FFA competed in the job interview contest Nov. 24, at Smithville High School. Hailey Park and Callee Aviles competed in the freshman and sophomore divisions, and both earned first place. John Bricker competed in the junior division and received seventh place. Jessica Peak represented the first-year member junior/senior division and also earned first place. Alicia Sugaski competed in the senior division and received sixth place. The chapter also participated in the sub-district parliamentary procedure contest. Team members placing fifth included president, Sierra Sturgill; secretary; Meghan Gallagher; members Morgan Czarny, Madison Edwards, Rachel Holt, Mandy Yoder; and alternates Suzanne Packard, Allen Slaven and Collin Burnett.

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — Hillsdale FFA sent a team to the Ohio Food Science Technology CDE. Team members and their results were: Josh Davis, fifth; Libby Hohler, seventh; Kate McGovern, 11th; and Blayne Barter, 41st. The team placed second in the state competition and will move on to compete in the Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts in September 2016. The novice and advanced Hillsdale FFA parliamentary procedure teams both competed in the state competition, in Columbus, Dec. 19.

The novice team placed first and earned a gold rating with team members: president, Carly Miller; vice president, Blayne Bartter; secretary, Sophie Goon; treasurer, Madison Eaton; reporter, Alex Becker; sentinel, Lexi Courtney; student advisor, Molly Moffet; and member, Alena Arnold. The advanced team also placed first and earned a gold rating with team members: Maryellen Bliss, Shelby Long, Ben Raudebaugh, Bethany Heiby, Sydney Long, Libby Hohler, Sean Fitzsimmons and Sarah Lifer.

WEST SALEM, Ohio ­— The Northwestern FFA Chapter will be collecting cleaned Christmas trees on Jan. 5 by appointment only. People living in the Northwestern School District may call the Northwestern High School FFA at 419-846-3833, ext. 1317 to arrange pickup of their tree. Trees will be delivered to the West Salem Beagle Club for the protection of rabbits and other wildlife.
