JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — The Hillsdale FFA sent three students to the district job interview contest Nov. 18. Students develop a resume, cover letter, fill out a job application and participate in a mock interview. Alena Arnold received first place, advancing her to the state contest Dec. 5. Madison Heller placed sixth and Shelbi Long placed third.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio — Five members of the West Holmes FFA chapter received their American FFA degrees at the National FFA Convention. Recipients were Clay Armstrong, Beth Klein, Grayson Miller, Mandy Taylor, and Dustin Niehaus.
Armstrong’s Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project included working on Acker Farms and raising his own hay. He also worked for Town and County Co-op hauling grain and fertilizers.
Klein’s SAE included working for Loder Farms training and caring for horses, and T&L Transport creating and filing paper work for their milk and orange juice hauling business.
Miller’s SAE included working for Turf Master Ltd. where he started as a hired hand for mowing and advanced to a crew chief.
Taylor’s SAE included raising market hogs, working at OTG Farms as a feed salesman, and logging hours for her year as a state officer. Niehaus’ SAE included working for Mullet Cabinet where he sanded, cleaned and stained cabinets, while maintaining the shop area.
On Nov. 7, the West Holmes FFA Chapter sent two teams to the District 8 Trap Shoot at the Jefferson County Sportsman Club. One team placed seventh with team members Jake Mullet, Michael Klein, Jarrett Snow, Douglas Moore, and Tyler Lyons. The second team placed 14th with team members, Patrick Schlabach, Ryan Tish, and Regina Miller. The chapter held its annual Greenhand Lock-in at the West Holmes High School Nov. 6. The workshop focused on team building and building a positive relationship with those around you.
The elections were held and those elected to office was Gabriella Sherman, president, Abigail Rohr, vice president, John Hughes, historian, Logan Schlauch, secretary, Maddy Dawson, student advisor, Travett Boughman, treasurer, JoAnna Miller, reporter, and Seth Rogers as sentinel.
During the greenhand business meeting, members voted to hold a January fun meeting and invite other chapters. The group also decided to schedule a Christmas party and a $5 dollar gift exchange for the December meeting.
