DELAWARE, Ohio — Eleven Ohio FFA chapters were chosen to receive a $500 grant to participate in the Ohio Small Grains Marketing Program’s nutritional awareness campaign, “Food for Thought Challenge.”
Food for Thought is a statewide competition among FFA chapters to increase awareness about the nutritional value of a diet with whole grains, among other healthy behavior changes, in their schools and communities.
Participating FFA chapters submitted campaign entries in September and were selected in October based on the originality of their campaign ideas. FFA chapters selected include Cory-Rawson, Cedarville, Eaton-MVCTC, London, Madison-Plains, McComb, Mowrystown, North Union, Ridgedale and Riverdale.
FFA chapters will present their campaigns to a panel of judges at the 88th Ohio State FFA Convention May 3 and 4 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. One chapter’s efforts will also be selected as the winner and they will receive $2,000.

SULLIVAN, Ohio —The Black River FFA chapter held their annual Farm Games event, Oct. 20 with FFA members from Northwestern, Mapleton and Buckeye FFA chapters.
FFA members participated in activities that focused on teamwork and leadership as well as a variety of games including ag trivia, straw bale toss, three-legged race and more.

ASHLAND, Ohio — In early November, the Crestview FFA chapter harvested 23 varieties and 9 brands of corn that had been planted in May as test plots. The average for the plot was 188.61 bushels per acre, and the average for the 25.5-acre school farm was 172 bpa.
The top four hybrids were SCS 10HR43, at 208 bushels per acre, LG 5499 STX RIB, at 204 bushels per acre, Dynagro D43VC50 RIB, at 203, and Agrigold A6462 STX RIB, at 202 bushels per acre.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — Northwestern FFA member, Hannah Hottel participated in the National AgriScience Fair at National FFA Convention. Hottel placed 4th with her project titled Comparing the Natural and Safe-Guard Treatments Effects on the Strongyle Parasites.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Zane Trace FFA chapter was recognized as a national three star chapter at the National FFA Convention. FFA member Mariah Cox was also recognized as a national finalist proficiency award area of Food Science & Technology.

GNADENHUTTEN, Ohio — The Indian Valley FFA forestry team placed second overall on the district level. Individual scores were Autumn Gardner placing third, Nick Phillips placing sixth and Aric Gardner placing seventh.
The forestry team proceeded to the state level and placed sixth overall. Individual scores at the state level were Aric Gardner placing 22nd and Brandon Stephen placing 24th. The Urban Soils team also placed sixth overall at the district level.
Johnathon Sheehan placed seventh and Cedric Rummell placed ninth individually. The Rural Soils team placed second overall at the district level, Nick Phillips placed second individually along with Justin Scott who placed ninth.

WATERFORD, Ohio — Allison Adams of the Waterford FFA Chapter, was awarded the American FFA Degree at the National FFA Convention.
Adams is the daughter of Richard and Valorie Adams and is currently majoring in Business Management Specialization in Agricultural Business at The Ohio State University.

RICHMOND, Ohio — On Oct. 28, the Richmond Edison FFA chapter traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, with five students, for the National FFA convention. Attending were Sara Waggoner, Travis Brand, Nick Shultz, Sydni Ward and Matthew Randolph.
