SULLIVAN, Ohio — The Black River FFA Forestry Team participated in the Crawford County Forestry Career Development Event, Sept. 10, at Camp Micheal in Bucyrus.
The Forestry Career Development Event teaches skills and develops a student’s knowledge in the industry including: tree identification, general forestry knowledge, timber cruising, map reading, tree diseases and disorders and equipment identification.
This year’s district team consisted of John Bricker, Eric Cordonnier, Collin Burnett, Allen Slaven, Joey Rochford and Madison Edwards. The team placed 6th overall in the competition and 1st within District 3.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — On Sept. 23, members from the Northwestern FFA picked grapes at Jim Borton’s vineyard. Members put more than 5,000 pound of grapes into bins, to be shipped off for processing. The Bortons prepared supper after the work was done.
The chapter also earned a trip to compete for national recognition in the Milk Quality and Products and Parliamentary Procedure FFA Career Development Events at The Eastern States Exposition (the Big E), in Springfield, Massachusetts, Sept. 18 and 19.
These two teams earned their spot to compete at the Big E by placing second in Ohio in their respective contests. The members then earned the top spot at the Big E. Team members were Philip Eberly, Adam Miley, Rae Rempher, and Cody Tegtmeier. Eberly placed first individually, Tegtmeier was second, and Miley was third. Members of the Parliamentary Procedure Team that competed at the Big E were Victoria Devore, Philip Eberly, Emily Flinn, Rachelle Howman, Sarah Maximovich, and Kaci Way. This group earned fourth place.
