CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Four students from the Zane Trace FFA were invited to compete in the 2015 Food Science CDE at the Eastern States Exposition, or New England’s Great State Fair.
The event is the largest agricultural event on the East Coast, held in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Students attending were Ann Shelby, Mariah Cox, Nathaneal Freeman, and Olivia Pflaumer.
The students were able to explore Boston by visiting the Old North Church, walking the Freedom Trail, visiting the Boston Science Museum and eating at an Italian restaurant.
In the food science competition, students were expected to complete a written test, triangle test, aroma identification, customer inquiry, product development, and a few more.
A banquet was held to announce the results of the CDE competitions. The results for the Zane Trace team were as follows: Nathaneal Freeman, 9th individually; Olivia Pflaumer, 8th individually; and the Zane Trace Team earned 4th place overall, in their area.

ASHLAND, Ohio — The Crestview FFA held its annual Chicken Barbecue Sept. 11.
Members worked hard to prepare over 650 halves of chicken, green beans, baked potatoes, and brownies, along with drinks and condiments for the meal.
Over 80 percent of members sold barbecue tickets this year allowing for it to be a successful year of sales. The chapter would like to thank Newswanger Meat Market for the use of their chicken barbecue trailer, Sam Sauder, John and Heather Motter, Andy and Rhonda Motter, and Jerrod and Stacy Stuart for their help and contributions.

WASHINGTON COURTHOUSE — Members from the Miami Trace FFA Chapter spent Sept. 18 at the Miami Trace Elementary school educating approximately 720 third, forth, and fifth graders about agriculture and where their food comes from.
The high school students demonstrated in a step- by-step process how we get a finished food product from livestock, such as a pig. A petting zoo provided the perfect opportunity for kids who lack an agricultural background to see baby pigs, a feeder calf, and many other animals they may not see otherwise.
Other stations were more hands-on demonstrations, such as the station where kids learned about the composition of soil. Through this demonstration, students got to enjoy “dirt pudding,” getting to see firsthand how there are many different layers of soil.
The Miami Trace FFA would also like to thank JD Equipment, Baxla Tractor Sales and Mayer Farm Equipment for donating tractors and implements for students to experience.
The Miami Trace FFA achieved 100% chapter participation by asking each agricultural education class to contribute to the demonstration in some way. Some students donated supplies such as zip-lock bags and snacks, and others produced lesson plans and did research.
The goal of Fall Harvest Days is to make sure that the youth of the Miami Trace Local School District understand that everything they eat is a result of a farmer’s hard work.
The Miami Trace FFA is a satellite program of Great Oaks Career Campuses which encompasses approximately 200 students studying areas of agribusiness and production.

BEVERLY, Ohio — To start off our 2015-16 FFA Chapter, the Fort Frye FFA held a meeting Sept. 11 with our newly installed officers.
The group discussed the Soil Science CDE that includes rural and urban, that have been practicing for the past month most days after school for our County Competition that was hosted by the Frontier FFA Chapter Sept. 15.
At the Washington County soils competition both of the teams placed first.
The top three placers for urban that all came from our chapter were; Skylar Kell with first, Cameron Hupp with second, and Abbi Johnson placing third. Also the top three placers for Rural were Waterford’s Derek Huck first, Leanna Schott in second and our member Brayden Heiss in third. The members that attended the State FFA Convention, the National FFA Convention and FFA Camp stand up and tell their favorite parts of the trips.
The group included information about the National Convention in Louisville, Ky. and the chapters T-shirts.
