What happens when a sheep doesn’t have it’s wool sheared? Well, for one, the animal may have a hard time walking. And, it may become susceptible to medical problems.
CNN reports that “Chris,” as the person who found the sheep named him, was found wandering in the wild outside of Canberra, Australia. A shearer volunteered to cut the sheep’s wool. Forty-two minutes later, the excess wool was removed, weighing in at 89 pounds and measuring 18 inches. Compare that to a typical Australian sheep: 11 pounds of fleece that can be sheared in as little as three minutes.
Other sheep have made headlines for their overgrown wool, but Chris unofficially topped both “Shrek,” the New Zealand sheep that had 60 pounds of wool, and “Big Ben” with its 68 pounds of wool.
