Normally, proceeds from junior fair livestock auctions allow 4-H members to save the money or to put it toward purchasing a new animal for the following year, but Savannah Smith is using the money for something else.
The Chronicle-Telegram reports that the Wellington high school freshman is giving the proceeds from selling her market hog at the Lorain County Junior Fair Auction to her best friend who is battling cancer.
Bidding on Smith’s 256-pound hog started at $13 per pound and the winning bid was $21 per pound. The $5,376 Smith earned from selling the hog will be used to cover expenses associated with her illness.

This is a leaning experience for everyone, especially adults. I hope the person who purchased her hog will step up to the plate and make sure that Smith’s donation is matched so that she has the monies she earned also. I think that Smith’s selfless act of kindness shows her true character. What a wonderful adult she will be in the future!
