PIKETON, OHIO — Aquaponics interest in Ohio continues to be high as growers look for more efficient and greener ways of production. In response to this growing interest, a two-day workshop will be held July 10-11 at the Ohio Center for Aquaculture Research and Development at OSU South Centers in Piketon.
The workshop will offer in-depth, hands-on training covering different aquaponics methods, aquaponics food production, business aspects and marketing strategies, how to handle and maintain your fish and plants and much more. Sessions will be taught by industry experts from the region utilizing the research demonstration aquaponics system located at the facility.
Presenter Ryan Chatterson is owner and operator of Chatterson Farms, a commercial aquaponic farm located in Clermont, Fl. Ryan has been growing with aquaponics for over a decade. He spent 10 years working at Aquatic Eco-Systems where he assisted in thousands of aquaponic projects ranging from backyard systems to large commercial designs.
Other presenters include Allen Pattillo, Extension Educator from Iowa State University; Jeni Blackburn, co-owner, operator of Fresh Harvest Farms, a growing Ohio aquaponics facility; Lori Klintworth, owner, operator of Local Sprouts Aquaponics LLC, and an Aquaculture Boot Camp graduate who built her farm while attending the program; along with other industry experts from around the region. The workshop will also allow for networking among attendees.
