ARCHBOLD, Ohio – The Historic Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio, will host its 19th annual Doll Show and Sale Aug. 3-4.
The show itself is housed in the founder’s hall, an exhibition facility in the village complex. Featured will be a wide range of dolls, teddy bears, supplies, accessories, and related items.
Guest artist for the show is Berdine Creedy, who won two Doll of Excellence nominations and five Doll of the Year awards last year. At the Archbold show, Creedy will be displaying a new limited-edition baby doll she has created for Sauder Village.
The pose-able 14-inch baby doll is named and modeled after Lauren, great-granddaughter of Sauder Village founder Erie Sauder.
Author. Another guest is author Jill Jackson. Jackson’s series of “Lessons for Lucile” books are based on her mother-in-law’s diaries of life as a child in the early 1900s.
For each book, Jackson selects a doll artist to create a personalized version of Lucile to grace the cover. Creedy was selected to design a “Lucile” doll for Jackson’s third book in the “Lessons for Lucile” series. One of the 20 Lucile dolls created by Creedy will be offered for sale at the show as will the latest book, the third in the series, entitled How Dan Patch Got His Name.
Jackson will have books available and will be autographing them during the show.
She will be speaking at the “Doll Dinner” Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. at Sauder Heritage Inn.
Cost is $18 and reservations are required.
Appraisals. Also attending the show will be Peter C. Kalinke, German-born antique doll and teddy bear expert.
With over 25 years of appraising experience, Kalinke will make his services available to guests who would like to bring in dolls or bears made before 1960 for his opinion on the value.
There is a limit of six items per guest. While there will be no charge for the appraisal, Kalinke encourages donations to the educational mission of the Preschool Discovery House now in the planning stages at Historic Sauder Village.
The weekend will be feature dealers displaying dolls of all kinds, sizes and age-antiques, originals, reproductions, teddy bears and modern collectibles.
Also available will be accessories, supplies, clothing and patterns, furniture and books.
The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 3, and from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 4.
Admission to only the show is $6. Standard village admission is $9.50 for adults and $4.75 for students ages 6-16.
