A Xenia Township semitrailer crash in southwestern Ohio let hundreds of pigs loose on the evening of June 8. The crashed occurred on U.S. Route 35.
WLWT reports that the semi was hauling 2,200 feeder pigs from South Carolina and was on its way to an Indiana farm when the truck went over an embankment.
Between 300 and 500 piglets died as a result of the crash. Another 300 to 400 were running loose. Some of the 1,500 surviving piglets will have to be euthanized.
