COLUMBIANA, Ohio — Auctioneer Melvin “Mel” D. Freeze Sr., 74, of Columbiana, Ohio, died at 5:02 p.m. June 8, 2011, at the Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, W.Va. He had been fighting cancer of the lungs.
He was born March 29, 1937, in Wellsville, Ohio, the son of the late Vernon Freeze and Phillis Elliott. He was raised by his grandmother, Blanche Elliott, also deceased.
Mel served in the U.S. Navy. He ran his own business, Mels Auctions and Antiques in New England, Ohio and Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Magill Freeze, and five children, Frank, Melvin Jr., Patricia, Debora and Claudia.
Services will be held June 20 at 1 p.m. at the Columbiana Cemetery Chapel.
