CARROLLTON, Ohio – It was standing room only at the 29th annual Daffodil Dairy Sale held March 25 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds in Carrollton, Ohio, where the sale average hit $1,454.
The total was $59,625, down more than $18,500 from last year.
Forty-two consignments paraded the sale ring in this all-breeds sale, which included Holsteins, Brown Swiss, Ayrshires and Jerseys.
Tops. Topping the sale at $3,000 was the No. 1 consignment in the catalog, Buckeye-View Iriquois Dawn sired by Springhill-OH Iriquois and consigned by Anne Marie Fraser of Beloit, Ohio. She was purchased by David and Mike Evans of Minerva, Ohio.
Cows averaged $2,144
The second-highest selling consignment at $2,600 was from Kerry and Debbie Tessanne of Carrollton, Ohio. D&K Black Beauty Berry was purchased by Mike Walter of Spencer, Ohio.
Bred heifers. The high-selling bred heifer was Flo-An Inspiration Hallie, sired by Hanoverhill Inspiration, and consigned by William and Roxanne Casper of Carrollton. She was purchased by Lisa Kerr of Polk, Ohio, for $2,450.
The second high-selling bred heifer was a Brown Swiss at $2,000 and consigned by Levi Bardo of Salem. Bardo Hill Chime Carlee was sired by Rolling View Jetway Chime and due in May.
She was purchased by Rick and Theresa Schramm of Marietta, Ohio.
Bred heifers averaged $1,675.
Spring yearlings. The top-selling spring yearling was also a Brown Swiss and consigned by Bardo. Bardo HIll Dakota Cathy sired by Hilltop Acres PT Dakota, sold for $2,000 to Clarissa Mutti of Stonecreek, Ohio.
Spring yearlings averaged $1,075.
September calves. There were two top-selling September calves at $1,750. Duncan Approval Safire sired by Mr. Jed Approval was the consignment of Charles Duncan of Warsaw, Ohio. This Holstein calf was purchased by Dan Schmucker of Louisville, Ohio.
Alfa Creek Frame Berta, a Brown Swiss sired by Jetway Frame and consigned by Robin Boggs of Andover, Ohio, was purchased by Mary Kerns Meek of West Alexandria, Pa.
September calves averaged $1,209.
December calves. Flo-An Lindy Nice topped the December calves at $1,650. Consigned by William and Roxanne Casper of Carrollton and sired by Townson Lindy, she was purchased by David Phillis of Salem.
December calves averaged $1,071.
March calves. Bar-B-Hills Cherry-Red sired by Pinehurst Rock-N-Roll-Red was the top-selling March calf at $1,075. Consigned by Lumley Holsteins of Carrollton, she was purchased by Doug Dye of Beloit, Ohio.
March calves averaged $912.
Bulls. John and Adam Neider of Carrollton consigned the top-selling bull. Redien Acres Crash-Red sired by Stelbro Radius-Red sold for $950 to Richard Harstine of Dundee, Ohio.
Bulls averaged $650.
Steve Andrews of Wooster, Ohio, was the auctioneer, and ring men were Jayme Gandee, Rusty Kiko and Lenni Milano.
