January’s frigid temperatures took a toll on Ohio’s peach crop this year, leaving some farmers no choice but to cut down dead trees and plant new ones, according to The Toledo Blade.
The past winter’s weather also affected peach growers in Michigan and western Pennsylvania.
Peach trees take several years to begin growing fruit, so for those farmers who lost their entire orchard, it will be several years before they will have peaches. Peach generally last for about 20 years.
Even though the peach crop was mostly ruined this year, this fall’s apple crop is in good shape due to excellent growing conditions.
