Big Knob sale brings in nearly $32,000

ROCHESTER, Pa. – The Big Knob Fair livestock sale generated $31,659.81 for 4-H’ers this year.
Steers. Katie Landis raised the 1,310-pound grand champion market steer, which sold Hoss’s Steak and Sea House for $2.30 per pound.
Grant McCabe’s 1,302-pound reserve champion market steer went to Giant Eagle for $1.60 per pound.
Nine market steers crossed the auction block, averaging $1.44 per pound with champions and $1.28 without.
Dairy beef. Grand champion market dairy beef honors went to Mary Dietrich, who sold her 966-pound entry to Brunner’s Inc. and Dick Beglin for $1.50 per pound.
Brad Sherrock raised the 809-pound reserve grand champion market dairy beef project, which was bought by Giant Eagle for 90 cents per pound.
Three market dairy beef animals averaged $1.12 per pound with champions and $1.02 without champions.
Hogs. Kathy Jo Dietrich’s 268-pound grand champion hog sold to Rovidole Farm for $3.20 per pound.
The 258-pound reserve champion hog, exhibited by Jonathan Lutz, brought a bid of $2.85 per pound from Gobblers Knob Hunting Preserve.
Twenty-six hogs averaged $1.73 per pound with champion and $1.67 per pound without.
Lambs. Chelsea Lutz took home the grand champion market lamb banner. Her 95-pound lamb sold for $5.50 per pound to Diamond Milling.
Miranda Lutz claimed reserve champion market lamb honors and sold her 97-pound entry to Giant Eagle for $4 per pound.
Five market lamb averaged $3.16 per pound with champions and $1.92 per pound without champions.
