Trial and error proves to be an effective way for Penn State Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center near Lancaster, Pa to determine which flowers will and will not grow in the region’s climate, according to Lancaster Online.
Penn State has been testing flower varieties for over 80 years.
The university holds an annual field day where “flower trials” are shown to commercial buyers and businesses, informing them of what grows well and what doesn’t last in the region.The site can be viewed throughout the year and people can also attend seminars in addition to attending the field day.
Most of those who attend the field day use the knowledge gained there to inform their buying practices for the following year.
