Retired dairyman DeWayne Horne, of Jamestown, Pa., shares this 1950s photo of him as a young man unloading milk cans at a milk receiving plant in Adamsville, Pa. Horne, now 81, also told us his father, Vere Horne, purchased a 1924 Model T Ford truck for $450, which he used to haul milk. In 1926, the elder Horne was the first contract hauler to the milk receiving plant in Adamsville. The milk was then delivered to Pittsburgh by rail in 10-gallon cans. He continued his route until retiring in 1964. Horne proudly adds his four children remain dairy farmers today.
