MARYSVILLE, Ohio – Sale prices at the 35th annual Ohio Performance Tested Bull Sale and Video Auction increased by $485 per head, compared to 2003.
Auctioneer Johnny Regula sold 73 bulls for an average price of $1,966 during the April 17 auction at the Eastern Agricultural Research Station in Belle Valley, Ohio.
Angus tops sale. High selling honors went to Angus lot 150 at $4,000. He was also the only bull to have an average daily gain over 5 pounds during the 112-day test period.
Lot 150 was consigned by Kohli Farms of Circleville, Ohio and is a March 13, 2003 son of GAR Expectation 4915.
Lot 151, a flush mate to bull 150, was also consigned by Kohli Farms and was the second high seller at $3,900.
The top selling Simmental and third high selling bull overall was lot 801 at $3,500. He is a March 7, 2003 son of Nichols Legacy G151 and he was consigned by Fiebiger Simmental of Fletcher, Ohio.
Breed averages. Eight Simmental bulls averaged $2,400; three Charolais averaged $2,100; 54 Angus bulls sold for an average of $1,978; three Red Angus bulls averaged $1,533; Gelbvieh bulls averaged $1,450 on three head; and three Polled Herefords sold for a $1,417 average.
Only one bull failed to reach the minimum bid price of $1,200. The minimum bid price in 2003 was $1,000 and 27 bulls were marked as “no sales.”
Remote buyers. Buyers at the four remote sale sites hosted at the OSU Extension Offices in Carroll, Knox, Jackson and Shelby Counties and the South District Extension Office in Jackson purchased eight bulls.
