Fill in the Blank

As you read today’s column, I would like you to fill in the blank, and then if you have time respond to me by mail at: Dr. George A. Hazlett c/o Farm and Dairy, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460.

My reason for writing this subject is the decline that we are seeing on a daily basis of this and its usage.
Let me start out with a very good biblical hint to my subject that is found in Luke 6:31, “As ye would that men do to you, do ye also to them likewise.”

I’m sure as you read my column today you will see that I am dating myself. When I was a young boy at home, my parents, grandparents, and school teachers always insisted that we were polite and used words such as thank you, please, excuse me, pardon me, and other ways of being courteous to others. This was a common way of life.

“The greater a man in, the greater the courtesy!” [Alfred Lord Tennyson].

At one time in our society, we were known for our courtesy , kindness, and compassion. The decline started to take place when we began to decline in our morals. The removal of prayer in school that was supposed to make our nation better for all destroyed our identity.

“Respect for human life, and tenderness towards every form of human suffering is one of the most marked features of the best culture” [Anonymous].

“Keep thy tongue from evil, and they lips from speaking guile” [Psalm 3:13].

I have been writing today about what would make our nation and world much better if we could see and hear it promoted in our homes, churches, schools, and places of business and wherever else it’s missing.

So here is the fill in the blank: _________________ will make us a better nation which in turn will make us a better world.

Think about it!
