Pop star Katy Perry has found herself in an awkward situation stemming from the release of her new album, Prism — which has been deemed a ‘bio-security concern.”
According to Australia’s ABC News website, Perry’s new album is now the subject of a bio-security investigation by Australia’s Agriculture Department. Why? Apparently the deluxe version of the album contains flower seeds, and that triggered the alarm.
Sourcing the seeds
It became a question of whether or not the seeds being introduced were native to Australia. If the seeds were not native to the country, they could contain pests or diseases that could impact the local ecosystem.
The Daily Mail reports that Perry’s production company assured Australia’s Agriculture Department that the seeds were sourced locally and were not a threat to the ecosystem.
The seed packet, that ships with the international version of the album, contains Swan Rivery daisy seeds.
The singer’s new album, Prism, is currently topping the charts in Australia. Is the album’s success linked to the seed controversy? Who can say.
